Architect – Robert Potter & Partners.
Contractor – Ashleigh (Scotland) Ltd.

Completed: August 2006.

Development units:

  • 9 No. 3 apartment 4 person flats
  • 13 No. 4 apartment 6 person houses(life time homes)

On Monday 4 September 2006, Sebastian Tombs, the Chief Executive of Architecture + Design Scotland opened this development.

Mr Tombs (on left) welcomed Mr and Mrs Cassidy to their new home. Mr Tombs said:

“Architecture and Design Scotland , set up some 18 months ago as Scotland ’s champion for good architecture and urban design, has been asked by Ministers to look at housing. It is thus a pleasure to visit a project where the client has so obviously worked hard with the architects and planners to provide not only house types that reflect current and future needs, but also a sense of identity that is specific to this place.

Ayrshire Housing is a good example of the way in which a client can make a very significant difference to the quality of an area – and its string of awards is testament to its ambition.

Selecting the design team on the basis of its skills, listening to its tenants and users to get the right brief, and working with the planners to achieve a successful and welcoming development: these are ingredients for this achievement in Girvan – and important lessons for any client seeking to create lasting value.”
