A key aspect of our Lochside project has been the active involvement of the returning tenants and the wider community in its design. Each tenant has had an individual consultation with the architect Gordon Fleming of ARP Lorimer and Associates. They could choose the location of their new home as well as make decisions about its layout. Here’s one of Gordon’s handouts which shows the extensive choices open to each household. They could, for example, decide if they wanted their house “open plan” or not, and whether to have a double or two single bedrooms for their children.
Following the official opening of the first houses in Gould Street. The returning tenants and members of the Lochside tenants and residents association had a chance to meet up with Gordon and comment on some of his realised designs. They were joined by the chair of Ayrshire Housing, Paul Torrance, and several of the association’s housing managment and development teams.
Ayrshire Housing through the Lochside People and Place project will continue to support the local community as they contribute to the design and managment of open spaces both within the new development and the wider neighbourhood.
