A new community inspired play area was opened this afternoon in Ayr’s Lochside neighbourhood. Thanks to part funding from the Lottery’s Awards for All Scotland, Ayrshire Housing has provided a play area for young children to play creatively. It includes benches for parents to sit whilst their children enjoy themselves.
The idea and design came from workshops organised through the Lochside Neighbourhood Group. The Group brings together community representatives, local Councillors and workers from South Ayrshire Council and Ayrshire Housing.
Councillor Ian Cavana opening the play space said “I’m delighted with what the community has achieved working with Ayrshire Housing and my colleagues at the Council. I can see that the weans are delighted too!”.
Ian Cavana is also a Board member of Ayrshire Housing.
This initiative builds on Ayrshire Housing’s work over the last eight years in Lochside in partnership with the South Ayrshire Council. Its 100 house regeneration project received a High Commendation in the 2011 Building Successful Communities Awards. These annual Awards are sponsored by the Scottish Government and the Chartered Institute of Housing.
